Position Overview

The San Angelo Chamber of Commerce is seeking a dynamic, results-oriented professional to serve as the Associate Director of Business Recruitment & Retention. This position plays a key role in strengthening San Angelo’s business ecosystem by actively recruiting new businesses, supporting the growth and expansion of existing companies, and building meaningful relationships that support long-term economic vitality.


This position also supports the Chamber’s Economic Development strategy by focusing on business attraction, Business Retention & Expansion (BRE) outreach, and relationship-based sales initiatives that align with the Chamber’s mission to help local businesses grow, succeed, and make money. The ideal candidate is relationship-driven, data-focused, highly organized, and demonstrates an “attack mindset” toward achieving measurable outcomes.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Business, Marketing, Economic Development, Public Administration, Communications, or related field
  • 1–2 years of experience in sales, business development, client relations, or economic development preferred
  • Experience working with CRM systems and data tracking tools is desirable
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel for business visits and meetings


 Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $45,000 – $50,000, depending on qualifications and experience

Primary Responsibilities

  • Identify, recruit, and assist businesses considering relocation or expansion into San Angelo.
  • Develop and implement targeted outreach strategies to attract new businesses aligned with community economic development priorities.
  • Conduct proactive prospecting through calls, visits, networking events, and industry research.
  • Assist with site selection support, coordination of community tours, and preparation of recruitment proposals and marketing materials.
  • Support lead generation activities and maintain accurate recruitment pipeline tracking.

 

Business Retention & Expansion (BRE)

  • Conduct structured Business Retention & Expansion visits with existing local businesses to identify opportunities, challenges, and growth needs.
  • Serve as a relationship manager for targeted industry sectors and key employers.
  • Coordinate with community partners to connect businesses with workforce, financing, training, or regulatory resources.
  • Track BRE data and assist in identifying trends, risk indicators, and expansion opportunities.


Relationship & Community Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with business owners, community leaders, workforce partners, education institutions, and economic development stakeholders.
  • Represent the Chamber at tradeshows, events, industry meetings, and community functions.
  • Collaborate with Chamber membership, marketing, and Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) teams to align messaging and business engagement strategies.
  • Support Chamber events and initiatives designed to promote economic growth and business engagement.


Data Management & Reporting

  • Maintain and update customer relationship management (CRM) systems, prospect databases, and BRE tracking tools.
  • Assist with tracking performance metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Support research projects, market data collection, and industry analysis.
  • Prepare presentations, reports, and briefing materials for leadership, board members, and stakeholders.

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office setting but requires frequent travel and work in the San Angelo community for business visits, networking, and events. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
