The Fort Concho Speaker Series will return this year from noon to 1 p.m. each Wednesday this September.
Each presentation will take place in the Fort Concho Commissary, 702 Burgess St. Admission is free and open to the public. Attendees are welcome to bring their own lunches.
This season’s lineup of topics and speakers includes:
• Wednesday, Sept. 3: “Betting on Horses: Racing as an Economic Development Tool in 1866- 1896 San Angelo”, Preston Lewis, Local Author & Historian
• Wednesday, Sept. 10: “The Jumano Picture Story of the Lady in Blue at Meyers Spring, Texas” Tom Ashmore & CA Maegden
• Wednesday, Sept. 17: “Upcoming 151st Anniversary of the Battle of Dove Creek” Rene Trevino, Language & Cultural Preservation Director, Texas Kickapoo Indian Tribe, Joyce Gray, Texas Master Naturalist
• Wednesday, Sept. 24: “Using the Deity’s Name in Reverence on the Texas Frontier: Post Chaplains at Fort Concho” Jim Matthews, Historian.
